A very rare and superb ancient neolithic carving of a Cicada in banded Agate, Hongshan culture, 4700 to 2900 BC.
This fine banded agate pendant comes from an old German Collection of handpicked jade carvings of insects from different periods.
This piece is particularly interesting and superb. It's carved in a piece of beautiful banded agate, where the stone has reacted with a high flourite buriel invironment to produce a fantastic array of raised lines on the surface!.
Fine details with none of these modern toolmarks you will find on the fake Hongshan pieces abundant on the internet and with the right neolithic tecnique for drilling the loop from either side. Fine dusty white patina in the details.
Size: 57 mm.
Condition: Choice and intact. The loop was evidently heavily used and there's now less material to hold the tread due to this extensive wear.
Comes with our COA and guarantee for authenticity.
