An extremely rare belthook to survive today and likely because of the many thick gold inlays, since iron normally corrode away! The belthook is 16,7 cm. long and inlaid with thick gold decoration depicting animals and creatures (see closeups).
The belthook with vertically ridged profile, terminating in a dragons head hook, reverse with circular knop.
Condition: Intact and heavily corroded as should be expected for the very rare medium and with preserved inlays.
Provenance: The old collection of Torunn Gulliksen Ihlemann og Jens Thygesen, formerly Kunsthallen auctions, København. Ex. Bruun Rasmussen auctions 1723/1544
