Interesting and rare variant of Bronze 10 tical opium Toe weight, Burmese ca. 1750-80 AD (?).
This Toe has the elevated horselike tail with 4 instead of usual three spikes, and standing on an octagonal and finely stepped base, engraved with 9-rayed star seal as verification mark.
Very unusual weight that confirms that these weights were probably mixed and overlapping and made deep in the 18th. century.
Reff: Leif B. Mikkelsen 'Opium Weights', p.132, fig. 70.
Weight: 163 grams = 10 Tical.
Rarity: Rare variant.
Condition: Choice Very Fine. Fine brown patina - another gem from the Abrahamsen Collection.
Provenance: John Abrahamsen Collection, important Danish private collection of c. 250 Opium weights, hand-picked from 1991-2006, by the collector from German, British and Danish dealers. Comes with COA and provenance.
