A very nice and very large bronze seal ring in excellent condition, Roman, c. 2nd.-4th. cent. AD.
The ring of the typical ancient D-shape with high shoulders.
Size: The ring is 27-28 mm. wide and the ringsize is c. 21 mm.(max).
Condition: Extremely Fine for this type, lovely metal and brown patina.
Provenance: Gustav Oberländer (1926-2012), Oberländer aquired his massive and important collection of seals between 1985 - 2000s, bought at reputable dealers and from old collections. Gustav Oberländer specialized in early stamp and cylinder seals from the pre-historic and Dynastic civilizations in the Near East / Mesopotamia, Anatolia and Bactrian, but he also collected large amounts of later seals and seal rings.
