A better Assyrian cylinder seal, Middle Kingdom, c. 1400-1100 BC.

Carved and polished in a beautiful glossy dark green stone and finely engraved with an interesting scene, which looks like mating between two odd animals, the male jumping and the female horned. Above the star symbols of Ashur and crescent Nanna/Sin. Nanna was associated with cattle, perhaps due to the perceived similarity between bull horns and the crescent moon, which makes perfect sense considering the scene on this particular seal.

Size: 28 mm. tall. and no less than 14 mm. wide.

Condition: Good very fine, intact with minor wear. Attractive seal and imprint!

This seal was aquired 2003 and comes with hard impression and original ID-card from below collection.

Provenance: Gustav Oberländer (1926-2012), Oberländer aquired his massive and important collection between 1985 - 2000s, bought at reputable dealers and from old collections. Gustav Oberländer specialized in early stamp seals from the pre-historic and Dynastic civilizations in the Near East / Mesopotamia, Anatolia and Bactrian.
