A very rarely offered complete polychrome pottery figural vessel, Aztec / triple alliance Empire, c. 1200-1500 AD.
Interesting vessel that is both anthropomorphic and zoomorphic. A bulbous vessel with the figure having small limbs and with a small head with facial tattoos, probably a chieftain or Shaman. He is sort of holding on to the jar backwards with his diminutive hands. On the side of the vessel a protruding Feline or Dog head.
Size: 15 cm. wide and 9 cm. tall.
Condition: Nice Very fine for the type, loss of the lower part of leg of the figure.
Provenance: Very old Danish Private Collection, aquired in the 1950s-1960s.
