A stunning massive head of Buddha, much larger than lifesize, Thailand, Ayutthaya period, 14th. century
The head of longish oval shape, with clearly delineated eyes and lids lowered in meditation, a smiling mouth and tiny curls covering head and ushnisha. Done in sandstone with finely inlaid eyes in other materials.
Size: 80 cm. incl the red wooden base and 56-57 cm. alone. Very heavy, probably weighing 30+ kilos!
Fantastic style and preservation for the period with remnants of black and gold.
Ex. Old Danish Estate collection of Tom Klitgaard, aquired 1960s-1990s.
