A lovely renaissance style pewter flagon or jug, made by Ulrich Appel in Nuremberg, Germany c. mid-late 17th. century.

Ulrich Appel became a master of pewter in 1659 and this vessel would have been made shortly thereafter.

The surface of this entire jug is profusely decorated with particularly artfull and tecnically difficult style of late renaissance - early baroque micro-engraving. A large winged angel with long flowing hair in the center front. He has a halo around his head. The rest of the vessel and the lid engraved with floral decorations. Also the base ring is engraved with micro-lines and patterns.

Size: 27,3 cm. wide.

Provenance: Private Collection of Bjørn De Roepstorff, an important Danish castle / mansion collection of Early European antiques.
