Japanese Blue & White porcelain PLATE depicting a contended farmer under a wide brimmed hat, wearing his straw "raincoat," and his straw "zori," (sandals,) leaning on his hoe as he gazes at the oversize bamboo shoots in his bamboo grove! All very peaceful and soothing. This plate has a slightly scalloped rim and many cracks and breaks which have been repaired. Even though the repairs were not particularly well done (in Japan) this is a dynamic under glaze blue, real colbalt (not dye) plate that deserves to be cherished and displayed. Truely unique. There are scratches on the glaze and some very slight loss of glaze in one small sliver near the rim. Condition is poor. Diameter is 13.25 inches (33.65 cms) and height is 2" or 5 cms. Circa 1830-1868.
