Carl Kempe Collection of Chinese Ceramics # 170, a stonewear flower-shaped, oblong with flat base and bevelled foot-rim "cup" or BRUSHWASHER with lavender glaze and brown foot-rim. "Kuan" or "Guan" type, Song, Sung Dynasty. Purchased at Sotheby's in Paris France, Lot # 99. Provenance:(with paper labels on base) exhibited Kunst Industri Museet, Kobenhavn, 1950, No. 295; Exhibition of Chinese Art, Palazzo Ducale, Venice, 1954, cat No. 457; with "CK-170" yellow & red paper label on base. Published with photograph in "The World's Great Collections: Oriental Ceramics," vol 8. Tokyo Kodansha 1982 plate 141 and "Chinese Ceramics in the Carl Kempe Collection," Stockholm, Almqvist & Wiksell, 1964, plate #170. Dimensions: length 3 9/16 inches (9 cms) height 7/8 of an inch (2.6 cms) Condition is good, some "kiln flaws," on upper rim in several locations (see photos.) Includes silk presentation/storage box.
