This is a Henryk Winograd war plaque depicting in high relief and amazing detail the coming of the Jewish immigrants to Ellis island in New York City. Ellis Island opened in 1892 as a federal immigration station. For more than 60 years millions of newly arrived immigrants passed through this station. It has been estimated that close to 40 percent of all current U.S. citizens can trace at least one of their ancestors to Ellis Island.
This magnificent plaque is .999 silver, in excellent condition, marked and copyrighted in 1985 by Henryk Winograd, the master of silversmith and repoussé.
