This is a magnificent antique sterling silver coffee set made by Black, Starr & Frost with covered foliate scrollwork motifs and intricate raised floral pattern. The set contains of three pieces as coffee pot, creamer, sugar bowl, all beautifully and highly repoussé. This gorgeous three piece set is marked for Black, Starr, & Frost, New York Sterling.
Each piece is decorated all over with a stunning repoussé floral and leaf vine work with a central open cartouche and lid for the coffee pot. An appealing addition of ivory embellishes the handles of the coffee pot and teapot.
Black, Starr & Frost is one of America’s oldest fine jewelers since 1810. It was considered one of the great American jewelers for many decades. In 1876, the firm was invited to exhibit at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia along with renowned firms like Tiffany & Co, Whiting, and Gorham. In 1939, it was one of five American jewelers invited to exhibit at New York’s World’s Fair. In 1929, it merged with Gorham to become Black, Starr & Frost - Gorham.
