MING-SWATOW Blue&White Porcelain Plate, Wanli Period
Please refer to our stock # TUKK when inquiring.
A superior example of a Ming Dynasty blue and white Swatow porcelain plate which dates from the Wanli Reign (1573 - 1619). It has a thick crackled glaze and the center medallion is hand painted with a rare crossed double phoenix motif (male and female) and nicely surrounded by foliage, a large peony and other flowers. This stunning ensemble is surrounded by 5 very attractive border panels. As this is a shipwreck dish there is no question as to it's authenticity. This fine specimen has some sand/kiln grit deposit on the back side where it rested while firing in the kiln and which is common in Swatow ware. Condition: a superior example in very good condition. No cracks, chips, hairlines nor restorations. Size: 10 1/4" (26 cm.) diameter.
