Very finely painted nature scene on silk, KANO School, Japan, 17th Century. The motif depicts a mountainous landscape with trees and is dramatically rendered with a flying bird of prey (Hawk?), it's hunting instinct drawn to an escaping flying bird. The soft pastel polychrome tones and ink illustrate cascading hills of the mountains and trees suggesting serene peace, whereas the hawk and it's alertness indicates power, survival and instinct. As so often in KANO paintings, the ensemble tends to evoke a dream-like atmosphere. This album silk painting is mounted on heavy gold paper and is in very good condition with minor loss to silk on the bottom left corner. Size: H. 25 cm. c W. 21 cm. Two further such paintings available, see item # 1098510 and 1098511. Framed.
