Rare ROMAN Red-Orange Carnelian gem ring newly set in 2-tone 18K. Gold depicting a male lion which holds one paw upon a kantharoid vessel. In the field the solar star within the crescent both representing the concept of "aeternitas". Excellent composition with exquisite carving. Oval shape, Roman 1/2nd Century AD. New 18K. 2-tone Gold setting. Condition: intact with highly polished surface. On the reverse side an inconsequential, barely visible craze inside the stone. The item is legal to buy and sell under international laws relating to cultural patrimony. Provenance: Schuler Auctions, Zurich, Switzerland.
