A serene and beautiful gilded wooden AVA Period Burmese Buddha in Bhumisparsha Mudra position (calling Earth to witness) on a stepped throne base. Nice natural aged patina showing black lacquer and divine gilding. Of special interest and rare are the raised intricate, delicate and unusual hair locks of this statue, the raised decorated border of the robe, as well as a special carved niche found at the back of the throne which served to store relics. 16th Century and very well preserved. The Buddha's face is beautifully shaped and the eyes are downcast, typical of the AVA period. Size: H. 43.3 cm. x W. 19.3 cm.
The finely modelled head radiates meditative inwardliness. Exceptional collector's piece!
