This is a huge Japanese circa 1900 tripod fine Satsuma covered box finely decorated with a double shield on top of a lid. Shields depict aristocrats and children under sakura , and a landscape with a temple, houses and mountains. The sides of the Box have floral decorations and clouds; gilded feet depict leaves. The interior of the box has a scene of a finely painted lady with an umbrella and boys, and a background with bushes and flower blossoms; the children's heads and hats are different.
The box is signed by the artist.
It measures 9 1/4 inches in diameter by 5 inches tall and dates 19th century, Meiji, Japan.
