This is a big and beautiful Japanese unusually shaped cobalt blue Satsuma Vase decorated with very finely painted raised gold shields. There are samurai, a landsacpe with a tree and a moon on one shield, a group of dancing men, a woman with a landscape with trees, and a moon on a second pannel; and two men , a landscape and trees are on the third shield. The fourth shield has aristocrats in beautiful clothes and a servant holding a woman's umbrella. The cobalt-blue is finely decorated with symbolic flowers. The Vase is signed by the artist (sugnature is slightly worn). This Vase has absolutely no wear to gilding.
The vase dates 19th century, Meiji, Japan, and measures 12 1/4" tall x 6 3/4" D.
