One of a kind large Japanese Meiji Period (19th century) Boxwood Shibayama hand-carved Okimono of an elephant with a removable crystal ball on top of its back. The Okimono has a fantastic carving on top; the base for the bowl and sides have finely carved dragons on them. The okimono has thousands of shibayama inlays, mother-of-pearls, amber, jade, carnelians and other stones. They are inlaid all over the elephant and only a coupe of them are missing only.The tusks are made from ivory. the Okimono has a great patina and a high hand polishing.
