Magnificent Japanese Meiji Period (19th century) blue and white moriage Hirado Vase. It is finely decorated with ten decorative scrolls with under-glaze painting of various designs. The scrolls depict two boys playing go-game, a boy reading a scroll, a boy playing koto, a boy riding a toy-horse, a boy painting the scroll, a boy with a book; there are three other scrolls with boys chasing butterflies.
The bottom of the vase is finely decorated with a moriage (raised) border and a scene with under-glazed blue waves.
