Very fine Japanese Meiji Period Tokyo School Ivory Okimono of a dreaming painter. The painter leans against the table, next to hibachi, with various painting staff (on and around the table). There is a carved screen decorated with a scene of Raiden with drums and a landscape over the back of it. There are also two okimonos of funny oni in dynamic positions. One oni mixes paints with his right hand and holds a bowl in his left hand. Another oni hangs over the screen with a brush in his right hand. The top of the screen is decorated with two dragons. The bottom of the okimono is finely hand-carved and has fine scrimshaw work. There is a red lacquer signature of the artist. The okimono comes with a wooden base. 4" tall x 3 1/2" wide with a stand and only 3 1/2" tall x 2 1/2" wide x 2" deep w/out the stand.
