Green lead glazed oil lamp or candle stand from the Han Dynasty. In excellent condition with no damage, there are still traces of the classic silver patina as may be seen in enlargements. H: 13.5cm/5.3in and D: 10.5cm/4.2in.

Ensemble of very old beads, I found these in a small shop in Phrae, Northeast Thailand a few years ago. The green mottled beads are late Qing Dynasty Peking glass, the brown glass tapered tube bead emulating agate was probably made for the Funan or Chenla Kingdoms as I have agate beads from the same period which are pretty much identical, the white bead with orange splash is at least early Qing. Nice old Cambodian lacquered basket. Very few things survived the reign of the Khmer Rouge which makes old baskets quite rare. Circa 70 years old, there are some old repairs noted in the enlargements. D: 30cm/11.8in and H: 11cm/4.2in.

Large vintage “bush knife” from Lanna Thailand, this is an all purpose tool with a thick spine and very sharp edge- quite heavy as well. The blade is fixed with a steel collar and woven rattan and comes with a bamboo basket type sheath. Total L: 54cm/22.2in (blade L: 29cm/11.5in and handle L: 25cm/10.5in). This is an artisanal village made piece and not mass produced.

Finely detailed woman’s full length three paneled tube sarong from Ende, Flores Island, Indonesia. I bought this in 1988, this was used when I bought in Ende and has remained in storage since then. All natural dyes and handspun, hand woven cotton. Pristine condition with soft and comfortable weave. W: 150cm/59in and L: 1400cm/55in.

Fine old rattan/bamboo splitting knife used in basket making. This has a great natural patina on the handle with decorated “butt”, circa first half 20th century. The blade still carries a sharp edge and is still quite serviceable. L: 44cm/17.2in (blade is 11cm/4.2cm). Excellent condition.

Unique Burmese/Lanna Thai excavated gray terra cotta pipe bowl from Chiang Mai, in the shape of an elephant’s head. Clay pipes are fairly ubiquitous archeological artifacts found throughout much of the “Golden Triangle” and have been dated as far back as 12thCE Pagan, Burma. Fine strand of prewar WWII, glass Venetian trade beads from Africa, L: 58cm/23in. These are strung on a contemporary cotton green string with copper wire fastener. Strand of Khmer glass beads circa 11th to 12th century. Generically classified as Indo Pacific Trade Beads, these were sourced in Cambodia. Alabaster Shan Buddha circa 18th century. This has been left out in the sun and rain for the past 15years so the surface has begun to degrade (a good lesson in the Buddhist principle of Anicca ~ the impermanence of all things). The head has been reattached. The base is hollow- the only example I have ever seen with this. H: 27cm/10.6in and W: 11cm/4.2in.

Nice old antique black lacquered bamboo and wood box from Cambodia circa 1950 or earlier. This part of a collection I acquired almost 20 years ago. Khmer lacquer is quite rare, not many crafts survived the Khmer Rouge era, and is a lost art. Some wear and restoration as to be expected but no major damage. D: 5cm/7.8in and H: 10.5cm/4.1in.

54 old coconut disc shaped beads, mala. I acquired these beads in 1991 in the Barkhor Market in front of the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa. These have been restrung on elastic chord so it may be worn around the wrist. These are old hand made beads with beautiful natural patina. 130.00 Beautiful circa 600CE to 700CE Pyu coins. The larger coin has a srivatsa (temple), on one side and celestial symbol and rising sun, on the other- 1/2 unit sterling quality silver. This coin has been punctured and at one time had small silver loop soldered to it. The smaller one, also pierced, has a bhadrapitha – pedestal for a deity and srivatsa, and is from Sri Ksetra. ¼ unit D: 8mm. Unusual Miao embroidered central panel, of a wedding apron costume. There is a coiled dragon in the center with two phoenixes above- surrounded with longevity characters, anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures. It has a tattered calendered silk black border silk weft embroidered all the threads are handspun. The orange dye has bled into the white field some, so please see enlargements. Small porcelain Vietnamese shipwreck recovery water dropper in the shape of an elephant. The glaze has dissolved after so long under the water but the body is intact. This is most likely from the Cau Ma shipwreck, circa 1775, discovered off the coast of Vietnam. No chips or damage. L: 6.2cm/3.2in and H: 5cm/2in.
