Exceptionally fine mid 20th CE wedding cover from the Zhuang ethnic group, Guzhou This piece is in perfect condition and is composed of silk floss on all handspun cotton using the supplementary weft embroidery technique. With the migration of rural young women moving to the “big city” to get factory jobs, this art has all but died out. Dimensions: 104cm/41in x 156cm/61in. I have 30 pieces from this area and this is by far the best.

Image of the “Tiger Taming Arhat”- Fúhǔ Luóhàn, mounted on traditional silk paper scroll. Actual painting D: 144cm/57in x 91cm/36in, mounted D: 190cm/75in x 104cm/41in. I am very fond of this depiction- Chinese interpretations usually show a man beating the tiger into submission with a metal ring, this one shows the Master and Tiger living at ease with one another- more in tune with the original idea that the Tiger was tamed with kindness and the two eventually becoming friends...
