Exceptionally fine mid 20th CE wedding cover from the Zhuang ethnic group, Guzhou This piece is in perfect condition and is composed of silk floss on all handspun cotton using the supplementary weft embroidery technique. With the migration of rural young women moving to the “big city” to get factory jobs, this art has all but died out. Dimensions: 104cm/41in x 156cm/61in.

Very rare late 19th- to early 20th CE storage basket from the Bidayuh people of Sarawak. For basket collectors this is a real “classic”. The lid is made from the skin of a sambar deer while the basket plaiting is all rattan with some bamboo slats on one side as a cushion; also the basket is lined inside with peeled wood. There are a few very minor repairs and holes here and there but overall I would consider this piece in very good condition given its age and environment. The lid is ...

This is an exceptionally rare Shan (aka Dai, Tai) altar figure carved from very heavy and tough iron wood, circa 19th CE. As with almost all the ethnic groups from this region in Southeast Asia, local animist and ancestor traditions coexist or are integrated with the predominantly Buddhist religion. This piece came from the Shan State, Burma and is H: 14.7cm5.8in.

Fabulous signed old men’s blanket from the Biboki region, West Timor. The writing is different from the center then it is from the ends so perhaps, this is a dedication or blessing rather than a signature. W: 114cm/44.8in and L: 186cm/73in, except for the yellow and blue lines this is woven from all naturally dyed handspun thread. Dating circa 1950 to 1960.

Rare three paneled men’s wrap from the Nung/Rawang ethnic group of the Kachin State, Burma. The weaving technique and materials are quite unique which I have not encountered with any other ethnic group. The base warp and weft foundation is made from hemp fiber, the pile is made from cotton, and the finished maroon colored ends are finished in wool. All the fibers on this piece are handspun with the exception of the bright colored yarn which are “store bought” synthetics. The Rawang...

Rare and unusual 3 paneled tufted blanket from the Rawang ethnic group in the Kachin State, Burma. Very rare early 20th century textile from the Mulao ethnic group Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Province. The weaving technique on this piece is quite delicate and complicated. The wef...
