Intricate shoulder cloth (hti paun) from the Mro Arang, Khami subgroup Rakhine State, Myanmar. Good condition, no holes or tears (could use a wash). Fascinating geometrical weft embroidered pattern- no two bands of patterns are exactly the same. It is woven in one continuous piece. Circa 1950- all hand spun threads. L 212cm/ 81in and W: 29cm/15.2in.

Rare Qing Shekwan/Shiwan ware combination ink stone brushwasher. The grinding surface is worn smooth from use, there is a green and amber glaze on the rim and has a wide, splayed solid foot- quite unusual. Excellent condition with no damage (just ink stains). Still usable, circa Qing Dynasty. D: 10.3cm/4.1in and H: 3cm/1.2in.

Good condition with lead glaze silver film and paraffin patina (there is a chip on the back of one collar and one of the heads has a restoration at the base which cannot be seen. The heads are removable, as is the case, with this period. The faces with the tall hats are quite elegant. H: 12.5cm/5.9in.

Ensemble of 4 Lanna Thai Buddhist reading implements (analogous to a Yad Torah Pointer). Used to mark pages and point out words while reciting a sutra from a Buddhist manuscript, i.e. individual pages sandwiched between two small wooden planks. The one with most vivid gold looks to have been re lacquered- circa 50 to 90 years old. Check enlargements for size.

Unusual Northern Song Qingbai bowl. Other than a few tiny frits on the rim there is no damage and has an original mark inside foot and unglazed firing ring in center. The glaze has an even green hue with nice craquelure and a near white stoneware body. D: 14.9cm/5.8in and H: 6.7cm/2.6in.

Fine old “daunlang khwelan” serving tray from the Shan State, Myanmar (most likely Inle Lake). Made circa 1920 – 1950 and signed on the bottom. Excellent condition except for some craqueler on the surface which is to be expected on old Burmese lacquer. I bought this in 1987 in Chiang Mai. D: 34cm/13.2in and H: 18.5cm/7.2in.

Ikat sarong from the upland Karen (Pwo or Sgaw) ethnic group in Northern Thailand. This is woven from all handspun cotton thread and natural dyes. Acquired in the 1980s, it has never been used and as such may be described as being in pristine original condition. The cloth coming these people nowadays, are nowhere near this quality. W: 85cm/33in and L: 150cm/60in.

Xinjiang: Rare, Qing Dynasty small sitting mat depicting an altar table with incense burner flanked by pomegranate and citron (Buddha’s hand) and key fret border. Xinjiang Chinese Saddle Bags: Complete set of horse/donkey bags circa late 19th to early 20th century. Please see enlargement 3#- the flat weave edge on one panel is missing and the central panel has about 4cm missing on each horizontal side (see enlargements again). Nice old Shekwan/Shiwan chopstick holder with classic green glaze- guaranteed 1st half of the 20th century- possibly Qing. Lots of auspicious symbols i.e., bats, coin, longevity characters and pierced double happiness character in the center. There are original firing cracks on both sides- still very usable in the kitchen. L :24cm/9.4in and W: 13.5cm/5.2in.

Women’s skirt from the Bahnar (Ba Na) ethnic group from the Central Highlands of Vietnam, woven from fine handspun cotton using all natural dyes. The weaving is very intricate and refined, note the use of narrow warp ikat bands throughout this piece. This is one single panel which would have used to make three other skirts. See last enlargement for a complete example. L: 2.9meter/9.5feet and W: 66cm/26in. I have two complete skirts- please contact if interested.

Lovely serpentine carving of crabs in a fisherman’s net and basket. This was made in the 80’s for export, from outlets like the China Friendship and Products stores. This was made in Guangdong wood carving style, which is famous for its intricate depictions of sea life. This is made from a single stone and comes with a custom wire inlaid wood stand. No chips or breakages- excellent condtion. H: 17cm/6.7in and W: 11.5cm/4.5in (not including stand).
