Exquisite inside painted glass crystal bottle depicting 7 tigers in a mountain landscape. This piece is dated 1987 which marks the height of contemporary Chinese Arts and Crafts as this coincides with opening up of the PRC and its eagerness to highlight the skill of their traditional artisans. Pieces from this period are much sought after by Chinese collectors since quality has since then declined. The quality of this piece may be recognized by realistic three dimensional details and t...

Tibetan Buddhist “windhorse” woodblock with loads of auspicious symbols (trigrams, dorjes etc) for printing small prayer flags about 40 to 50 years old, still perfectly usable (I’ve thought of making cards with this but never got around to it). The “wind horse” has its origins the earlier Bon folk religion but has been incorporated to Tantric art for the past couple of hundred years. I’ve researched few of interpretations of this symbol, which are quite complex so suf...

Pair of matched naturally stressed wooden plaques with “couplet”, encouraging harmony and peace. Traditionally Chinese write to right to left so the meaning of the board on the right encourages one to “admit your mistakes to avoid trouble in the world” while the one on the left, encourages one to “be tolerant, to live in peace”. It has been suggested to me that these may be have been hung in an old Kung Fu studio as this would express the spirit of martial arts. The calligr...

Rare Buddhist votive terra cotta plaque, circa 10th, or earlier. Very interesting iconography with the Buddha seated on a lotus supported by two Brahma (Nandi) bulls and central Ganesha head. So far I have not found any references to similar piece, so this could be a one of a kind. The inclusion of Hindu deities, suggest that this may have a Pala influence He is surrounded by a dotted nimbus on his torso, with a flaming one around his head, seated beneath a Bo tree Condition as pictured, the...
