Quirky SouLou longevity hat or clothing ornament from the Ming Dynasty. A simple little jade man, carved from Chinese nephrite jade. H: 3.1cm x W: 1.7cm. I am used to seeing these clothing ornaments in Jadeite dating from the Qing, but this is the first one I have found this early. There is one tiny chip on the lower right corner and some natural calcification in the stone as is typical with ancient Nephrite. Free shipping via Hong Kong Registered Airmail.

Quirky “Budai”circa Qing Dynasty, possibly much earlier. This is a high fired pottery molded piece. Stylistically this figure hasn’t changed much since the Song Dynasty so precise dating is difficult. This is an excavated piece as evidenced by traces of soil in the folds of the robe, and has a similar glaze to Jizhou but without the expected craquelure- quite possibly this Shekwan piece emulating a Song glaze. In excellent condition-H: 12.9cm/5in and W: 9.4cm/3.7in.

Pair of matched naturally stressed wooden plaques with “couplet”, encouraging harmony and peace. Traditionally Chinese write to right to left so the meaning of the board on the right encourages one to “admit your mistakes to avoid trouble in the world” while the one on the left, encourages one to “be tolerant, to live in peace”. It has been suggested to me that these may be have been hung in an old Kung Fu studio as this would express the spirit of martial arts. The calligr...
