Classic buff pottery ox from the Tang Dynasty- a very sturdy and well sculpted piece. This would clean up very nicely with just a soak, a rinse and possibly a soft bristled tooth brush. I left the mud on because it shows the traces of mineralized plant roots and some collectors like that “in situ” look. Excellent condition, no damage. Can clean if any buyer wants me to but this will result in the loss of the white pigment under the dirt. L: 16cm/6.2in and H: 11cm/4.2in.

Early 20th century fragment of large Inner Mongolian rug with repetitive floral pattern on a grid. A very stunning piece, at least to me, I think it looks nicer without its original border. The double selvedge indicates the edges were done locally, in Baotou rather then somewhere else. Some brown discoloration in a couple of places, but no holes or other damage. L: 1.93m/6.3in and W: 67cm/26.5in.

Nice strand of Kushan/Bactrian of mixed stone (mostly carnelian) beads. I acquired these along with coins dating from 1st- 4th CE from the same site in North West Pakistan, so these can be dated no later than 1500 years old. There are a few agate and quartzite beads in the lot, some with traces of “etching”. The crescent shaped beads would have originally small ringed shaped ornaments that have been drilled and “knapped” to some extent to accommodate them being strung...

Fine old Chinese nephrite jade, circa Tang Dynasty or earlier. This piece has been crisply cut and polished on all sides and edges, the tiny holes drilled front and back indicate that this piece was possibly a garment fastener which was held on with either gold or silver wire. An excellent study piece for the new collector. 5.8cm/2.3in x 3.2cm/1.4in.

Rare and unusual Iban pottery pattern paddle carved from durable Iron Wood (Belian wood), circa 19th century. The pattern on this would be pressed into unfired clay pots to give it this design by the Iban people of Sarawak. This technique has been used since Neolithic times predating the pottery wheel, where pots were made by coiling “ropes” of clay into a shape and then using the paddle to press the coils together to make a shape...

Good Ming Dynasty celadon saucer with impressed floral medallion in center. This piece has warm olive color to it- a nice heavy piece with a good shiny glaze; possibly meant to be a brushwasher. There was an “overdone” restoration that covered 8cm on the rim which I removed and redid with a basic gold leaf and lacquer repair covering only 1.3cm- noted in enlargements. D: 14.8cm/5.8in and H: 3.8cm/1.5in.

Lovely carved nephrite pendant with classic “cat on a leaf” motif. This piece has been re-carved to appear as the cat is sitting on a peapod (peapods being one of the myriad of Chinese symbols wishing one to have many children), but was really done to hide the damage on the sides of a larger leaf. This sill retains it’s essence of “kittyness” as she reposes languidly on the leaf. L: 7cm/2.8in. Free shipping via Hong Kong Registered Airmail.
