Interesting old Burmese/Shan hand written book on handmade Saa (mulberry pulp paper). There are 12 pages between the covers- most of these books are usually related to either Buddhist studies or shaman rituals, but as I can’t find anyone who can read this it is being sold as a fine example of calligraphy. All the materials are handmade from the string binding the pages together to the charcoal ink...

Bullock cart decoration of a tiger carrying a woman in its jaws. This is base on an old Burmese folk tale about two brothers (messengers of King Anawathra- founder of Pagan) who fall in love with a young girl who rejects them and so they send a tiger to kill her. This is circa late 19th century there some damage and to the figure of the woman. H: 35cm/13.8in.

Unusual “pile” of old glass cylinder beads picked up in Mae Sot, Thailand along the Burmese border about 10 years ago. These are from Burma and were probably meant for Victorian Era, British colonials who used them for beaded curtains. I assuming these are of Bohemian, Czech manufacture but am certain that they are old- circa late 19th/early 20th century. There are 20 strands with around 20, 8cm beads per strand and total length of 1.75cm/5ft9in ea, i.e. about 400 beads...

Old Timorese wooden statue commemorating a departed loved one. These were kept in the “attic” of a home and were not meant to be free standing. I bought this from an old Australian collection which was collected in the 1980s in West Timor, so this dates 1950’s to 1960s. This carved from hard wood in good condition with minor checks in the wood. H: 19.5cm/7.8in.

Very rare late 19th- to early 20th CE storage basket from the Bidayuh people of Sarawak. The lid is made from the skin of a sambar deer while the basket plaiting is all rattan with some bamboo slats on one side as a cushion; also the basket is lined inside with peeled wood. There are a few very minor repairs and holes here and there but overall I would consider this piece in very good condition given its age and environment. H: 57cm/22.5in and top D: 31cm/12.2in.

Good circa 19th CE bronze Buddha from the Shan people in Burma. I found this in Mae Sai, along the Thai/Burmese border in 1998. The style is rather quirky but the face is typically Shan with Burmese gold and black lacquer. There are a few chips to the lacquer otherwise perfect condition. H: 14.7cm/5.9in and W: 5.7cm/2.3in.

Rare woman’s pictorial shoulder cloth from a Chin subgroup (Khami, Khumi or Mro) living in the Rakhine and Chin states, west Myanmar. Please note that the pattern is hand embroidered on one side only and not woven in, also most of the geometric woven patterns are unique with only a couple of repetitions. The dimensions are L: 123cm/63in x W: 34cm/13.5in. I have three books and Burmese textiles and there are no depicted examples of pictorial weaves. Circa 50 to 60 years old.

Very rare Khmer black lacquer “pillow box” with an abstract floral pattern. This is an old pre Khmer Rouge item, dating 50 to 60 years old, possibly more. The unique decoration makes this a one of a kind piece, the construction is typically Cambodian, in that it is constructed with thin small planks of wood and is coated with raw lacquer on the bottom, and this was sourced in the “Russian Market” about 15 years ago in Phnom Phenh...

Nice old Cambodian “siri” box. This piece predates the Khmer Rouge regime and circa 60 or 70 years old. In good condition, there is no significant damage other expected signs of use and wear. In recent years Khmer lacquerware is making a comeback, however most of this is used for “home décor” export items, as far as I know no one is currently resurrected items for common household use. D: 25cm/9.9in and W: 12cm/4.8in.
