Nice pair of adjustable silver bangles with Dragon and Phoenix motif. These were made as traditional Chinese wedding gifts and always given in pairs to the couple. They can be expanded and are very suitable for larger Western hands. The insides are stamped “silver” and are about 70% to 80% in purity and weigh 35 grams each. This adjustable style has went out of style (unless it is gold) and date to between 1960- 1980...

A timely and quirky soy brown glazed Korean War era chopstick holder with political slogans. The left hand column translates as “support your family and the Chinese military”, the right hand “oppose America, support Korea” and the top characters “increase productivity”. Possibly used in a factory canteen this is the only ceramic I have ever seen from this brief period...

Nice vintage jadeite bangle circa 40 to 70 years old. Some tiny scratches on the surface but no cracks. Unusually small size perhaps made as a “symbolic protective” gift for an infant, but it seems unlikely they would have worn it as it is so thick and heavy. Nice spinach green highlights. Outer D: 5.5cm/2.18in, inner D: 3.27cm/1.29in and thickness 1.13cm/0.44in, weight 55 grams. Slightly compressed on the inside. I think this could be worn as a pendant...

Good Kayan Orang Ulu gawai rice festival ceremonial mask, circa 40 years old, from Sarawak. I bought this piece in Kuching, Sarawak in 2003. This mask would be held by the teeth on a piece of rattan on the inside. Used only twice a year for rice planting and harvesting festivals (gawai), these gatherings were usually a good excuse for a party and celebration to encourage the spirits to ensure a good harvest. H: 25cm/9.8in and W: 16cm/6.2in.

They usually live in remote areas around Luang Prabang and practice simple agriculture, hunting and gathering as well as bartering goods with other neighboring minorities. These would date between 20 and 50 years...

Good monkey khik carved from wood, contrary to how I see these often advertised they, have little to do with attracting women, but are worn by on the side by men for luck and prosperity or used by women to ward odd “evil men” and attract money. The symbolism goes way back to Hindu mythology where the Shiva lingam represents primordial creative energy and the Monkey God Hanuman embodies courage and devotion. L: 5cm/2in...

Vintage/antique, in situ, sleeve panels from the Miao ethnic minority in Guizhou. This date from about 40 to 80 years old; please bear in mind, the ability to do this kind of work has pretty much died out as the economic development in Chinese has caused most young women in the villages to move to the city for better employment opportunities. Textiles still play an important part in Miao life but much of what is produced today is done by machine rather than hand...
