Colorful hand woven cotton belt for a traditional Bhutanese Kiri (national dress). I bought this in 1998, from a little old lady at the bottom of the trail to Paro Takstang (Tiger’s Nest). Never used- would make a great guitar strap (IMHO). L: 244cm/96in and W: 6cm/2.4in.

Fine and rare old rattan “tali” basket with a contracted mouth from the Idu Mishmi ethnic group of Arunachal Pradesh, India. In India they are primarily animist but in China where they are known as the Lhoba they have a strong spiritual affiliations with Tibetan Buddhism. Google “Bamboo and Cane Culture of Arunchal Pradesh” and you will get a good description of this regional craft...

Vintage women’s three paneled dress circa 1970 to 1990 from Bhutan. The threads are some kind of polyester but the weaving and embroidery are done by hand. Minor fraying along one side as well some pinholes and stains. L: 2.3m/90in and W: 1.43m/56in.

Rare strand of “drum” shaped white glass beads from the Naga ethnic group Assam, India, strung on hand made hemp cord. These are old beads and will date them conservatively pre 1950, please note the two round shaped beads are Chinese “Peking” glass beads 19th century. A few have chips but 90% are in excellent condition. Total length 68cm/27in, please note these are all the same size (scale in enlargements is metric).

Fine and rare Naga basket with ceremonial tail; these were used for carrying sharpened “panji” sticks, which were stuck in the ground to impede an enemy’s progress. Perfect condition made from all naturally produced handmade materials. The basket is woven from bamboo strips, the fringe of the tail is made of hair from a horse’s mane, and the carrying belt is composed of a plant fiber rope and possibly pandanus/palm fiber...

Luscious all hand spun and woven with gold threads, panel from a vintage Varanasi, Indian wedding sari, circa 60 to 70 years old. I would describe the colors as pigeon blood ruby red with subtle gentian floral scrolls intermingled with the gold thread medallions, which I might add is made of genuine low karat gold metal.
