Lovely vintage wearable woman’s dress from the Tai Dam ethnic group Vietnam. Made from all hand woven cotton cloth the, colorful silk embroidered wide bordered hem is particularly nice. Good condition, with a couple of fading streaks at the waist panel, but as this part was never meant to be shown when worn I would consider this negligible. W: 136cm/54in and L: 97cm/38in.

Stunning Zo/Tedem blanket from the Burmese Indian border region. This piece is all silk, which indicates it was used on ceremonial occasions or owned by a high status woman. Mantles of Merit by David and Barbara Fraser has a near identical piece, pg 89 images 148 a,b, and c but their piece is mostly cotton, dated 1930 to 1960 so I will date this one the same. The feel on this piece is incredibly soft and supple, really something that cannot be conveyed through photos...

Unique signed old, men’s blanket from the Biboki region, West Timor. The writing is different from the center then it is from the ends so perhaps, this is a dedication or blessing rather than a signature. W: 114cm/44.8in and L: 186cm/73in, except for the yellow and blue lines this is woven from all naturally dyed handspun thread. Dating circa 1950 to 1960.

Good Iban woman’s kain depicting tree of life with bamboo running the length of the bidang reaching above the forest canopy, circa 1950s. Aside from commercial warp thread on sides, it is composed of all natural dyes and handspun thread. There are the inevitable few pin holes and a few small tears on one side (this indicates where the skirt has been taken in to have a better fit on the waist). L: 188cm/46.5in and W: 51cm/20in

Very rare woman’s skirt (pukhang) from the Kachin/Jingpo ethnic group, Northeast Burma. Aside from tiny amounts of commercially dyed thread used on the borders as highlights this piece is made of all hand spun treads and natural dyes...

Rare and unique large Penan rattan mat with human headed snake spirit motif. This piece was sourced from an Iban longhouse in Kampong Yamok, Kapit District, Sarawak. The pattern is distinctly Penan suggesting that it was either a barter item or that the original owner, an Iban man had a Penan wife. I was told this piece had been in the family for 4 generations but this could simply a “sales talk”. It is old maybe 30 to 50 years- I bought this in 2001 in Sarawak...
