Fine woman’s full length four paneled tube sarong from Ende, Flores Island, Indonesia. This has been my possession since 1988 when I made a trip through Indonesia to study their arts and crafts, this was used when I bought it but has remained in storage since then. Although not as well known as Sumbanese and Ibanic ikat, the intricacy of the pattern and fine quality of the weave are more abstract and far superior. I had the good fortune to visit a weaving village back then and personally observe the spinning, dyeing making natural plants and weaving techniques. This piece is all hand made from organic dyes except for the machine thread and stitching of the panels together. Perfect condition; please note the differences in color in the first enlargement is due to the lighting- the colors are even throughout. . W: 130cm/51in And L: 170cm/6.7in.
