Rare two paneled wedding blanket with stylized confronted birds and flowers (ref. Hali Magazine, issue, 155, pg 67, Eric Boudot, Chinese Minorities Textiles) from the Dai minority, Dehong, Yunnan, China. The Dai are members of the greater ethnic group usually referred as Shan, the majority of who live in the Burma, Shan State. This type of textile however is unique only to the Daizu and is composed of all natural dyes and hand spun cotton, with the exception of some the brown warp threads which look to be commercial- please examine enlargements. I would date this piece mid 20th century circa 1950-1960. In perfect condition with indigo hand woven cotton border, W: 65cm/25.5in and H: 100cm/39.2in, dimensions including border W: 100cm/39.2cm and H: 130cm/51.2cm.
