Quirky enameled aluminum repousse wood framed panel with two fish, “good luck” fu and dragon’s gate characters. This would have been given to someone after to graduating or obtaining a job promotion to wish them success in their future endeavors. The “socialist” aluminum and red enamels indicate this would have been made in the early period of the People’s Republic of China, predating the Cultural Revolution so it is from the 1950s or 60s. This is a unique piece- after 27 years in Hong Kong I have never seen anything similar to this. H: 83.5cm/33in and W: 40cm/15.8in. There is some missing enamel on the fu character.
