Fine intricate four paneled handwoven bed cover made with handspun natural local indigo dyed cotton from the Ha/Meifu dialect speaking Li people, Hainan Island. The black color is in the design is achieved by burying the thread in the mud after being dyed with indigo. Symbols depicted on this piece are single face embroidered mother and son figures. Excellent condition, L: 1.86m/6ft1in and W: 1.25m/4ft2in. Reference: Traditional Brocade of the Li Ethnic Group- Fu Guiha (editor in chief). According to UNESCO as of 2008 and less than 1000 Li women knew how to weave traditional textiles. This piece is about 20 or 30 years old. W: 121cm/48in and L: 198cm/198in.
