Fine old Sinhalese decorative terra cotta impressed brick tile depicting the mythical Hansa (sacred goose) carrying a lotus in its mouth. This animal is commonly represented in both Hindu and Theravada Buddhist art symbolizing the escape from the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Along with the Singha (lion) the Hansa is emblematic of Sri Lanka and frequently seen in various forms of Sinhalese Art. It is in excellent condition and comes with custom made museum quality perspex stand. Circa late 18CE - early 19CE, Kandy Period which was the last native ruled kingdom in Sri Lanka. W: 18cm/7in, H: 11.5cm/4.5in and 8cm/3.2in thickness.
