Stunning wooden statue of a court official or Taoist deity circa Ming Dynasty. He has a fierce countenance and although small has an imposing presence. Please examine images carefully; this has some fire damage as well as damage to arms. There is some compacted soil under the legs as well as having an unusually light weight which leads me to think this an excavated piece. There are traces of white gesso primer as well as small areas of green and red original pigment. H: 21.5cm/8.5in. Please note my photo editing software tends to “squash” things a bit so he is not fat and squat as the images indicate.
