Unusual Lao folk image of the Buddha with tall spire like unisha and traces of original black, gold and red lacquer, circa late 19th century. The wood is heavy so this is probably teak. There is one inlaid shell eye~condtion as pictured. The ridge in the center of the square hour glass shape base represents a sheaf of freshly cut rice stalks. These were usually carved by rural folks as form wish fulfilling merit making and left under a tree or in a cave which accounts for their inevitable deteriorated condition. H: 50cm/19.8in and W: 8.2cm/3.2in.
