Fine old Xinjiang aka Chinese Turkestan carpet with central “moon flower” medallion surrounded by pomegranate flowers, flanked by two Islamic six pointed star “girih sāzī” medallions and stylized Chinese auspicious “bogu” elements, i.e. butterflies and flower filled vases. This piece is circa early 20th century. About 5cm of one end has been rewoven (see enlargement #8) with some small areas of low pile- otherwise very good condition. L: 257cm/101in and W: 138cm/54in. The orange field is most likely aniline with the rest consisting of vegetal or mineral dyes. Please note the difference in tone on this piece is the result of shade from the side of the house as I took these images outdoors, the color is even on the field throughout.
