Very fine purse from the Yao (aka Mien) people of Yunnan or Laos. This is piece is semi antique circa 80 years old composed of all hand spun cotton, silk and red wool/bast fiber margin at the top (the exception would be the decorative ribbons which are commercial). This style of purse is pictured in Jess Pourret's The Yao but I’ll have to say the embroidery on this much better. Also rare is the use of natural dyes and hand loomed strap.
