Superbly detailed, large multi colored, “eight days a week” zodiac box. This piece is in excellent condtion, save for one small chip on lid noted in enlargement #9. This one was produced in Kyaukka, Sagaing District circa 1950. The highly polished effect was created by the application of tung oil on the surface (reference: Lacquerware Journeys- Than Htun). In my opinion this piece was never used for anything other then a decorative piece as the interior shows no wear whatsoever while the exterior has the typical aged patina of old Burmese lacquer. This is a complete original set with two interior trays and slightly domed lid. D: 25cm/9.8in and H: 21cm/8.3in.
