Classic old Baotou carpet with image of a boy playing a flute, which symbolizes peace and longing for a simple rural life and phoenix looking at the sun which symbolizes the rule of a wise emperor. The on the border is filled with cranes which are a common Chinese symbol for long life. The “three colors”, blue palette, is the signature style for Baotou rugs. There are numerous small rewoven repairs, which are most visible on the back of carpet, so please view enlargements closely. No holes or other damage. A sleeve has been sewn on the top of the back so it may be hung on a wall. L: 129cm/50in and 68cm/26.8in. Circa later first half 20th century.
