Excellent small Rawang Nung basket. The Rawang are a subgroup of the Kachin people and live in some of the last great wilderness forests left in Burma. Also it is interesting to note that the men do the weaving and with advent of plastic bags this pretty much an extinct craft. This has a classic double woven wall to give this piece stamina and durability. Please note, the two colored weave at the bottom of this piece, is an excellent example of the thoughtfulness to put into an every day piece on the part most people would never see. I have 7 of these small pieces and this is by far the best. H: 20cm/7.9in and W: 20cm/7.9in. Circa 50 years old (+/-. Suitable for Japanese floral arrangements-ikebana.
