Good Medieval Venetian silver coin grosso circa 1228-1239 CE. Minted under the Doge Francesca Dandelo, this was used to finance the Fourth Crusade. Prior to that Venetian coins became debased and were only 25% silver, this coin is the purest silver coin that could be made at the time given the metallurgical technology at the time at 98.5%. D: 16mm and approximately 2 grams. Obv: the Doge receiving a flag from Saint Mark (Venice’s patron saint) and rev: Christ enthroned. Free shipping.
