A timely and quirky soy brown glazed Korean War era chopstick holder with political slogans. The left hand column translates as “support your family and the Chinese military”, the right hand “oppose America, support Korea” and the top characters “increase productivity”. Possibly used in a factory canteen this is the only ceramic I have ever seen from this brief period. The two crossed flags are quite unusual- on the left you have the standard PRC flag but the left is represents The Chinese Soviet Republic (1931-1937), recognizable by the calligraphic style of the hammer and sickle. This sort of thing was made by the millions but today very few remain. H: 15cm/5.8in x center W: 14cm/5.5in, its history.
