Fine kutsu-gata hakeme chawan with flourishes of iron over the slip and under the clear, blue tinged ash glaze. The bowl is broad and fits well in the hand and has a crisp, well cut kodai that compliments the form and clay. Made by Goto Tetsu (Satoshi) who lives and works in Echizen (Fukui Pref.) at the Tsubaki-gama, he has spent a lifetime working within the Korean idiom combining Echizen and Karatsu pottery especially the gohonde and hakeme styles.

Classic hexagonal vase divided into section by incised lines and glazed over in a kairagi style haiyu onihada glaze pioneered by Mino veteran potter, Ando Moriyuki. This wood fired vase form is typical for the potter and by being separated into six unique panels, each display their own unique landscape tied in together like panels in a folding byobu screen. One time price drop on this mizusashi at the owners request.

Classic, robust Ko-Iga style mizusashi by veteran potter, Kojima Kenji. Clearly based on some Iga archetype this solid mizusashi was thrown and slightly manipulated to give the form a nice sense of gesture before adding thick and purposeful lugs and adding marks across the surface to further define the landscape of the piece. The face, entire shoulder and lid are covered in ash from a dark ominous area where the mizusashi sat in ...

Lush Ki-seto vase with a wide array of effects and colorations within the glaze and vivid, gem-like bidoro style beads in the nooks and crannies of the form. Made by Hayashi Shotaro in the early 1990s, this vase is a classic form and surface for the potter with throwing marks and added potter's marks articulating the medieval form. Shotaro is perhaps one of Japans true genius potters, moving far beyond tradition, glaze research and firing technique, to a place of inception. He first began wit...

Well fired and purposeful wood fired chawan by Aomori potter, Imai Rikei fired in the longest kiln in Japan at over 103 meters long (as certified by the folks at Guinness Records). This chawan appears to defy gravity as all of the ash runs up the pot culminating in spots in deep, brown-green bidoro drips as the chawan was fired upside down where the bottom and foot of the bowl are covered in ash making for a satiny smooth surface. The interior of the chawan is flashed and where it sat on the foo...

I'll start off by saying that I am selling this sculpture for a friend who is moving to smaller lodgings and I personally know almost nothing other than the obvious facts regarding this offering and this is being offered as is. What I can tell you is this large sculpture measures 47 x 15 x 24cm overall and is in very good condition comprised of the tiger pair on a raised plinth of lacquered (?) wood that is being referred to as; "two tigers walking". The wood base has remnants of green felt and ...

Large, hand carved Oribe vase form by Kato Shinya (Sakusuke V). This large vessel was thrown round and later altered to the current form where the surface was meticulously hand carved in this bold repeat pattern around the form and then glazed over in a rich deep green Oribe glaze.

This vase measures 13.25" x 8" x 4" and is in excellent condition excepting for a small gold repair at the upper left corner of the first picture at the lip transition and still makes for a wonderful display p...

Very fine Iga mimitsuki style hanaire by Furutani Michio with some vivid bidoro ash across the surface and rather expressive pottery marks made while the clay was still wet. I think it goes without saying that Furutani Michio was one of the most important anagama potters of the 20th century specializing in Iga and Shigaraki pottery. If you do a web search there is quite a bit of information about his life and work.

This vase measures approximately 25 x 12cm and is in great original conditi...

Lively wood fired Shino chawan by Kido Sadaaki. This stoneware chawan has a variety of wood fired effects from a thin coating of green ash about the surface to a crusty ash build up on the face of the pot. the bowl form fits well in the hand and the lip undulates enough to get the eye to observe the melted feldspar running into the interior and the deep, rich green pool that punctuates the center. The lip has a nice coating of ash and easily evokes images of rolling hills if your mind is so incl...

Robust and classically medieval in origin, this Seto-Guro chawan was made by Toki Intangible Cultural property, Mizuno Takuzo. The deep black surface has a wetness to the glaze that adds to curdled surface of the chawan that gives way to the buff clay and well addressed kodai. The chawan is well animated by way of deep throwing marks made while the bowl was wet and on the wheel and then was ovalled slightly to create a pleasing form to the hand and the eye. Strong form, strong surface and well s...

Like a previous chawan this hanaire vase is a lesson in texture, covered over in a thick feldspar Shino style glaze meant to imitate shark-skin on a form resembling bamboo with a flared mouth to complete the piece. The highly textural glaze is in constant motion with areas of small and large nodules colliding to animate the form that has iron added under the glaze to also create a moody, atmospheric presence to the pot. The foot is partial covered over in pebbly textured glaze and ringed by a da...

This large and robust Shino chawan was made by one of master chadogu, tea pottery makers of Japan, Tamaoki Yasuo. Though unboxed this is a classic early chawan with a milky, translucent Shino glaze over some iron decoration on the face of the bowl. The chawan was made out of excellent mogusa clay and the well sculpted foot and base show off the material to maximum affect. This chawan is used but in excellent condition measuring just over 14 x 10 cm but unfortunately does not have its original bo...

Exhibited (in a gallery show) this Ko-Iga chawan was made by veteran potter, Kojima Kenji. This bowl is broad and deftly manipulated to create a rather nice form with the addition of a stamped device toward the bottom of the reverse of the piece. The face of the chawan has a nice build up of ash creating a blue-grey surface that then runs to ash tendrils embracing the sides and terminating at the rear in a variety of large drips. The rear is also decorated by three shell scar impressions from...

Timeless Ko-Iga style Shingama chawan by veteran potter, Kojima Kenji made back in the 1990s. This bowl has good size, posture and feel, being rather purposeful and practical in form which has a visual rhythm contained within the mouth and transition area to the foot with nice, crisp throwing marks adding to the movement of the bowl. This chawan is finished with a classic foot as seen on many of Kojima's teabowls and has three distinct areas where the piece was placed on wads during the arduous ...
