Rich, almost volcanic deep red Shino chawan by multi-talented potter, Matsuzaki Ken. This large chawan has a tremendous amount of character and movement with a surface that resembles the Enbu work of Yamada Kazu though made before it was premiered. The thick, unctuous surface has a wonderful feel in the hand and is potently juxtaposed against the crimson red of the base glaze. This is a rather exhilarating bowl at a fraction of his contemporaries and his gallery prices.

Please note, there ...

Robust and rather practical Haku-ji chawan by veteran Kawai school potter; Mukunoki Eizo. Covered over in a thick coating of Hakuji style glaze the surface has shimmering crystals formed by tin throughout the surface creating a rather pleasant surface. The form is a classic ridged, shinogi style bowl which culminates in the buff stoneware ring of the foot. Mukunoki Eizo was one of Kawai Kanjiro's last students and in his tenure under the master he gained a great insight in to the Kawai school st...

Randomly patterned and ethereal porcelain mizusashi by nunozome master, Uwataki Katsuji. This wonderful example of Uwataki's nunozome technique is a fine mizusashi with pastel colors floating just under the surface of the vellum glaze making for a modern Arita tea ceremony object. The decoration though randomly applied present a well conceived pattern that are highlighted by the application of gold overglaze on some of the floral designs. Thrown out of a fine, white porcelain, the pot is light i...

Robust Oribe style covered jar with kushime slip decoration and angular knob. Though not necessarily intended as a mizusashi, it sits well next to a Shigaraki chawan in photo #6. ***I should also mention there is a fine crack where the knob meets the lid that is not sharp and does not effect the use and function of this piece.
