Very large Karatsu style teabowl that was thrown and tataki paddled with texture into an oval form. There are various tones of ash and iron yellow flowing about the bowl, especially seen on the inside. The foot is tooled by hand, off the wheel, to go with the form of the bowl. The clay is a mixture of actual river clay and my stoneware clay to give it an earthy iron brown flavor.

Earthy Mashiko henko by internationally known potter, hamada Shinsaku. Learning about pottery from his father, Hamada Shoji, Shinsaku has mastered the essence of Mashiko pottery as seen in this very fine, exhibition quality henko bottle with rich tessha glaze over a clear glaze with areas of a deep blue-green enamel punctuating the design of one side. This piece would be an exceptional addition to any collection that is interested in modern pottery, Mashiko or Hamada Shoji.

Intriguing chawan in the Mino tradition with thick trails of a feldspar Shino glaze over a rich temmoku glaze. This novel approach was created by Mino prefecture potter, Shomura Shogo and was most likely made in the 1980's.

This chawan is in great condition, measures 5" x 3" and comes with its original signed box.

Hagi chawan from the illustrious studio of Yoshiga Taibi, legendary potter and teacher. This Senryuzan chawan is a classical Hagi pot with rich tones of lavender running through out the glaze.

Classical chawan in the Kuro-Bizen style by the late master potter, Isezaki Mitsuru. This chawan exhibits a blackened, charcol fired exterior with ash sprinkled about the face and covering the interior floor of the bowl. the foot is exceptionally well cut and very crisp and his mark is prominently featured in the interior of the foot ring.

This chawan is in good, original condition, measures 5.25" x 3.4" and comes complete with its original signed box.

Elegant Irabo glazed chawan by Takatori legend, Miraku Kamei. This chawan has a Chinese influenced form while being made and glazed in the Takatori style. The flowing irabo ash glaze contrasts nicely against the reddish takatori fine clay.

This chawan is in excellent, unused condition, measures 5" x 2.8" and comes complete with its original, signed box.

Classic Shigaraki chawan by veteran wood fire potter, Takahashi Rakusai IV. This is truly a classic example of the Rakusai style and has vivid hi-iro flashing about the chawan while the face is painted in a fine coat of ash. having learned from his father, Rakusai III, Rakusai IV continues the tradition of the Takahashi family and this chawan is an excellent example of the form and style of firing the family is well know and respected for.

Unique and bold Raku influenced Kyogenhakama chawan by Nyoitera Haryo of the Nyoisanzin temple kiln and possibly dating to the late Edo or Meiji period. This Raku influenced chawan exhibits a generous form flanked by a series of circular impression over which a Raku glaze that has transmuted to a wide range of colors. It is a striking pot and would be a welcome addition for any collector or tea ceremony practitioner.

A pair of iron glazed, paddled (tataki) teabowl, both with hand cut feet. The left chawan glazed in temmoku with a tetsu-yu glaze over and the right bowl glazed in an alkaline clear with my saffron, iron yellow glaze over. Both bowls are tabi-chawan style and feel good in the hand.

Very large Oribe teabowl that was thrown and tataki paddled with texture into an oval form. There are two tones of green from the oribe on the bare clay and over areas of poured white slip. The foot is tooled by hand, off the wheel, to go with the form of the bowl.

Brilliantly glazed, Chinese influenced shishayu (copper red) vase made in Japan, circa 1950 - 1960. This vase owes its inspiration to Ming and Ching period of China and is made of porcelain and then heavily glazed in a multi-dimensional shinshayu glaze. Though it comes with the original signed box and is prominently signed, the maker is at this point, unidentified.

This vase is in excellent condition, measures 8.75" x 4" and comes with its original signed box.

Sophisticated, yet naturalistic set of five, hand made, hand cut leaf plates with red enamel leaf designs under a washed gold gilt surface. This Rimpa influenced set for casual or kaiseki use are by veteran Kyoto Kiyomizu potter, Heian Seiun and most likely date to the 1960s. Seiun comes from a long line of potters dating back to the Edo period and each of these plates is just slightly different in shape and form making for a marvelously natural set.

This rich and substantial pot is by Mashiko potter Hyuga Munetoshi, a one time student of the Hamada kiln (?). Glazed in an exceedingly rich tessha/kaki iron glaze the pot has wax resisted decoration of flowers on either side of the pot. Intended for use as both a tsubo and mizusashi, this pot is a great example of modern Mingei influenced Mashiko pottery. Evocative blue decorated henko bottle vase with fluid brush decoration and sgrafitto decoration prominently signed; SEIRAN. The cobalt decoration sits on an almost ash style glaze with spots of blushed areas, similar to Hagi pottery. I have not been able to find out anything about the potter, but the brushwork and use of space suggests a full time potter, used to working in this particular style.

This henko is in perfect condition with its original signed box and measures 8" X 8.5" x 6".

Porcelain smoking set by Kutani master, Suda Seika II (1892-1971). Using sometsuke underglaze blue and iro-e overglaze enamels, the two pieces are matched in motif of two koi, chest to chest. Circa 1960.
