Clearly based on some Iga archetype this solid mizusashi was thrown and slightly manipulated to give the form a nice sense of gesture before adding thick and purposeful lugs and adding marks across the surface to further define the landscape of the piece...

Rich gosu blue glaze covers this stoneware chawan with three areas of lyrical slip trailed decoration around the bowl. Made by the great-grandson of Kawai Kanjiro, this chawan by Kawai Sota is an excellent example of his work and the current direction of the Kawai-mon now approaching a century of tradition...

Large, totemic Shigaraki vase by veteran master craftsman, Tani Seiuemon I. This impressive and well fired Shigaraki hanaire was thrown in two sections and joined to create the vase and foot of this pot made out of wonderful kinose clay from the region.

This vase measures 12.75" x 5" and is in perfect, original condition with tea cloth and original signed box.

This large and rather colorful kohiki chawan was made by Ogawa Tetsuo a specialist in slips and Korean slipware of which this pot is a classic example. The surface of the teabowl shows off a wide array of colors and visual textures with areas of gohonde fawn spots and a translucent, waxy ash glaze coving the pot. The richness of the surface makes this a rather stunning piece by Ogawa with much more activity than seen in many of his teabowls...

This is a large and elegant salt fired enyu with a provocative crackle slip surface creating a wide array of textures and various color hues that make for a splendid chawan. measuring in at 14.2 x 8.6cm, this chawan was created by Tokoname mainstay, Ito Yushi and is rather typical of this style for which he is well known...

Large, hand carved Oribe vase form by Kato Shinya (Sakusuke V). This large vessel was thrown round and later altered to the current form where the surface was meticulously hand carved in this bold repeat pattern around the form and then glazed over in a rich deep green Oribe glaze...

Classic hexagonal vase divided into section by incised lines and glazed over in a kairagi style haiyu onihada glaze pioneered by Mino veteran potter, Ando Moriyuki. This wood fired vase form is typical for the potter and by being separated into six unique panels, each display their own unique landscape tied in together like panels in a folding byobu screen...

Traditional style chaire which was first glazed to the shoulder and then wood fired for a haikaburi effect. This chaire is in perfect condition with lid, bag and signed box and measures 7.5 x 6.8cm. The chaire mouth is not quite perfectly round and the lid fits very tightly.

Yamada Masakazu, born in 1951 is a traditional Mino craftsman and has been president of the Mino potters Association and specializes in wood fired Shino, Oribe and haiyu pottery.

Lively wood fired Shino chawan by Kido Sadaaki. This stoneware chawan has a variety of wood fired effects from a thin coating of green ash about the surface to a crusty ash build up on the face of the pot. the bowl form fits well in the hand and the lip undulates enough to get the eye to observe the melted feldspar running into the interior and the deep, rich green pool that punctuates the center...

Elegant Hagi hanging vase with a variety of colors from grey-blue to creamy white and lavender by master potter; Ono Zuiho. This hanging vase is made of a rich iron clay from Kyushu with a creamy slip and ash glaze over the piece.

Ono Zuiho is considered to be one of the 20th centuries most important Hagi potters. His work was not only traditional and geared toward chadogu, tea ceremony implements, but much of his work has a modern flare to it...

Elegant Shino lugged vase by veteran potter, Ando Hidetake (b. 1938). Thrown and then paddled ovoid, this simple tea ceremony vase was made of Mino mogusa clay and once stiff, the foot was hand carved to produce a fitting oval foot to compliment the form. There are wispy traces of iron under the crisp white Shino glaze meant to insinuate grasses and stemmed flowers in an ethereal Momoyama ink painting inspired manner...

This large Hagi tebachi, handled dish is by Scandinavian transplant and Hagi native; Bertil Nils Persson. Finding its inspiration in early Edo pottery, this tebachi is hand formed out of a rich red Hagi clay with a surface that shows a wide array of varying surface textures and hues over the large surface. Measuring 34 x 22 x 16cm this piece is far larger than it sounds and is in perfect condition with its original signed box...

Wonderful porcelain tsubo with exquisitely painted sparrow and foliage across the surface with vivid watercolor like effects calling to mind a scene right out of early autumn. The detail of the painting is rather intricate and obviously owes its inspiration to many of the Meiji era painters of which Watanabe Seitei (1851-1918) immediately springs to mind...
