If a chawan can be at the right place at the right time, than this is the one. This medieval style chawan has a rich, fluid coating of glassy ash covering the entire face and most of the interior of the bowl with a vivid, green pool of ash as a centerpiece for the viewer/user. The ash is in a myriad of colors and travels well onto the foot where it culminates in a beautiful drip of green glass. This chawan is a stellar example of the pottery of master Shigaraki potter; Furutani Churoku IV (Hiromu). Born in 1922, he began his study of pottery and firing in the 1940's with his father, Churoku III. He is widely exhibited and his current tea pieces, chawan and mizusashi sell for between 250,000 and 450,000 yen.
This chawan is in perfect condition with its original signed box/cloth and measures 5.25" x 3.5".
